To see a variety of wildlife pictures, visit our main nature photography website.  Africa is a special place. The wildlife, the people, the land is so amazing and so different that you can't help but get addicted. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are amazing to watch. Elephants, monkeys and wild dogs. It is all so different than North America. Even the bush is alive with unique sounds. Watching elephants and giraffes is so captivating, it is addictive!

A photo safari in Africa was unlike any safaris we have ever experienced. From capturing elephant photos as they push over giant trees to acquiring a lion video at night, then finding them the next morning gorging themselves on a cape buffalo carcass was just surreal. Watching cheetahs hunting impala and leopards hanging out in trees is simply breathtaking. Creating images from the raw events in the African wild as they unfold is just an amazing experience and we can't wait to go back to do it again.

Our second African photo safari was to Tanzania and Kenya during the great migration. The amount of wildlife compared to South Africa was magnified. I took twenty thousand pictures of animals on that trip...And came away with about 50 good pictures and 20 great pictures. :) We witnessed herds of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and elephant on the open savannah rather than smaller groups throughout the bush. A less intimate view of Africa perhaps as there are more tourists and more wildlife on a larger scale.

While on an ocean safari a few years ago we met a British couple. They had just come back from photographing spirit bears north of Vancouver Island. They told me that they take a "trip of a lifetime" together every year. While I can't afford that sort of yearly expedition, I do respect their approach and meeting them has really helped me to appreciate experiences and time together over "things" that I used to be more consumed with. I can't remember their names, but I really appreciated their lesson.

Below is a lion video and two elephant videos from our South African safari. I hope you enjoy them. For more videos and slideshows from our safaris check out our slideshow page.

Lions hunting at night at Mala Mala in South Africa

Check out my lion video of a pride of lions hunting at Mala Mala in South Africa. The following morning we caught up with them on a cape buffalo kill where they

stayed and feasted for the next two days.

Baby elephant trumpets at us in South Africa

This elephant video was taken at Mala Mala.

Baby elephant Mock Charge in South Africa

While we were on a photo safari at Mala Mala in South Africa, this little baby elephant wasn't quite sure what to make of us, so he decided to mock charge us about five times. Gaye took baby elephant videos while I took elephant pictures of the baby's  antics. It was very cute until his mommy asked us to leave! He charges us near the end of the video.
